It sounds like a lot of your problems will be fixed when we release client software for our VPN. That way your remote users would be able to log onto the network without a tunnel.

However, I do understand your concerns about the tunnels and administering multiple GNAT Boxes. As I said in my last email, our efforts have been focused on many things that will make GNAT Box easier to use and more functional. In the end I think everyone will be happy.

Yes, this is good. My idea was to group these items together so that
they could be expired together. For example

delete (Alias 9, tunnel 12,13, filter 1,2,3) after 2000/03/22 17:00:00

All well and good to say, but in practice - well, let me give an
example.

Let's say that I have a group of people heading off to a trade show
for a week. I want to give them access to POP and SMTP for their
email access. Now in this case they will use our mail server, so all
I need a new filter to allow pop access (normally completely blocked)
from their subnet at the trade show. I install it and add a comment
that in a week (on a certain date) it should be deleted.

After about 15 minutes I will have completely forgotten that I did any
of this (I am one of two people that manager the network for a company
of 200 people spread across 4 timezones on 3 continents - not a lot
for some, maybe, but it keeps me hoping :-).

The problem is worse if the change I make is to one of the Gnatboxes
at another office (I review their config *very* infrequently).

Another common example is our development team often wants to put a
beta version of a new product or something on the PSN for a few days
so one or a couple of our clients can access and test new features.
These require the full complement of Alias, Tunnel and Filter, where
there can be any number of tunnels and filters for the one machine.

All of the above I do a couple of times a month, a lot more around
tradeshow season. So, not often in some books, but often enough.

I hope I don't sound impatient or annoyed in this email, I am not
really. This is something that I would find amazingly useful, and am
astounded that it is not an often requested feature. I would not have
thought my needs to be much beyond pedestrian.

I guess in closing, my concern is that although it sounds easy, "just
log on a second time to delete it", that second time is difficult to
remember at the "right time", and with enough other work to do, it is
easy to ignore for a while.
