I've seen problems of this sort with several types of NICs and Switches.
As a rule, either set both ends of the link to Auto-negotiate, or set both
ends to the same parameters - e.g. full duplex 100Mbits/sec. In this
instance the problem is probably the Cisco Catalyst being set to
full-duplex; it should be set to auto-negotiate.
