Someone in one of the mail lists I frequent, can't recall if it was here
on GB-Users or OpenBSD, had commented that they had problems with a
cable modem and a NIC that was set to full-duplex. This *might* explain
what you are seeing.
I don't think the problem is inherently in NAT...too many of us are
using GNATbox Lite on our cable modems very successfully. You might
want to play with alternate hardware. I've managed to just about
saturate the 10Mbps Ethernet cable using a pair of SMC8216 cards on a
486/66 with 16M RAM.
What isn't clear at all from ozone's or your postings is what is ment by
"if I remove the NAT". Does this mean disabling the NAT function on
GB? Does this mean removing the GNATbox and going directly to the net?
Your message was subjected "Frequent Download Failures", but the message
you reference was about slow web display, not downloads, but you said
"same problem". ????
Internet downloads DO fail regularly. Depends a lot on the site and the
traffic between you and the site. I've found that the Novell.com web
site is one of the very few that I don't recall having terminated a
download prematurely, so I often use it for testing. There is one site
I often have to pull a 5M download from that I never get on the first
attempt.
However, we need a lot more information to help you. Otherwise, about
all we can say is "works for me". We don't even know what you are
connecting to -- the message you quote was on GB-lite at home on a cable
modem, but your sig line makes it sound like a DSL or T1 going into a
GB-Pro would be more likely...
Nick.

I have changed the external DNS server from our ISP's caching DNS to the authorative DNS. I'll try remember to post if this works or not.
